I know it's been a while. Life outside of writing has been crazy.
In March, a reputable agent told me that my novels are not in the proper word count range for my genres and I worked to correct the problem for the novel I'd like to see published first. All except one (at that time) sat below the range.
One is 14,000 plus words over and I have the task of cutting those words out of the manuscript. I've been through a few pages and crossed quite a bit out, but none of the changes are in the computer. The task is somewhat painful, but necessary.
I managed to correct the word count problem with The Legacy, but two other constructive comments were made after my changes. I have chosen to respectfully disagree with one after comparing the number of character introductions to novels within the last three or four years that have made the NY Best Sellers list and most have TV/Movie productions.
The other suggestion is proving difficult to incorporate.
I also found a solution to another novel where I left a handful of chapters choppy because I didn't know how to write the situation believable. By a twist of fate, I did not have much of a choice in purchasing a copy of The Innocent Man by John Grisham. (Book clubs and thier fine print rules. Blah!) It is a non-fiction book that documents four men's legal proceedings and one of the men's lives on death row. My charcter faces a short time on trial before being sentenced to death. Fate favored me in that moment. Along with other research, I feel confident that when I have time to begin the rewrite on Perfect Fan, I can do it with more skill and accuracy.
I doubt anyone reads this thing anymore. If you do, give me a kick so I know.
Thanks!
